How to Remove Urine Stains from Wood Floors




Urine Stains looks disgusting as much as they sound disgusting. Such stains should be treated as soon as possible as they generate smell which can become difficult to tolerate altogether. Urine stains can occur if you have pets at home, whether they are trained or not, pets loose it sometimes. In other case, if you have toddlers at your home then the worst part is that kids love to mess homes. Instead of discouraging kids the best solution would be to simply treat the stain.

This article will inform you with some of the hassle free, time saving and cost saving methods of removing these stains. Which method you should choose should depend on the availability of materials and whichever seems easy for you. You can adopt any one of the following methods to Remove Urine Stains from Wood floors.


Method 1 (Using Urine Off)

Things you will be required:


·      Water.
·      Urine off which is a commercial product.
·      Sanding.
·      Refurnishing.
·      Cloth

Steps:

1.   First take a dry piece of cloth and wipe the stain area to remove any unabsorbed urine, press the cloth hard so that urine can be absorbed in cloth.

2.   Spray Urine Off on the stain area and allow it to be applied on for an hour at least. The stain will be removed.

3.   However, if the stain is quite old then in that case you need to do some sanding and then refurnishing will be required.

Method 2 (Using Home Based materials)

Things you will be required:

·      Dish washing detergent.
·      Water.
·      Paper towels.
·      White vinegar.
·      Soft brush.
·      Pet stain neutralizing powder.
·      Vacuum cleaner.
·      Sand paper.
·      Sanding block.
·      Soft cloth.
·      Shellac based primer.
·      Paint brush.


Steps:

1.   If there are any carpets of small rugs over wooden flooring then you should immediately remove that, before you clean the floor. If the rugs are dirty as well you may wash them with a detergent and water as you washes them usually.

2.   With the help of paper towels gather as much urine in paper towels by pressing the towels on the puddle.

3.   Sprinkle white vinegar on wood floor. Allow white vinegar to sit on the Urine Stain for a maximum of five minutes and not more than that.

4.   Rub the vinegar with the help of brush and any excess moisture should be removed with the help of paper towels.

5.   You may then spray pet neutralizing powder on the stain area. After a while you can vacuum the powder.

6.   If the stain still remains then the next step should be that you tie up sand paper around a sanding block. Press it against the stain and in circular motions you may lift up the stain.

7.   You can wipe the area with a clean piece of cloth.

8.   If some paint is required you can even paint the area and your wood floor will be stain free. You can dip a paint brush in shellac based primer and brush it on the floor which originally had a stain on it.

9.   Allow it to dry and does not use the floor when it is wet as it can add to further marks and stains.

Method 3 (Contacting Paint Service Providers)

Things you will be required:

·      Paint services.
·      Money.
·      Time.

Steps:

1.   If you don't want to go into the hassle of sanding and refurnishing, then you may simply hide the stain by contacting paint service providers.

2.   They will simply recoat and paint your floor again and all the stains will be hidden.

3.   However, you will have to pay for the cost as well as time.

4.   Two three days must be given for the entire procedure.

Tips and Warnings:

1.   After refurnishing, make sure your pets are trained or they remain outside your flooring.

2.   Wear gloves when spraying Urine Off on the stain area.

3.   Pieces of cloth used should be disposed of and should not be reused again.

4.   Paper towels should be used for pressing only rather than wiping.
