How to Remove Mold from Shower Grout

Mold growing in shower grouts is one of the most frequently reported problems by mothers and wives these days. It is not because your shower has not been cleaned in a long time. Mold is cause by bacteria that is present everywhere. All it requires to grow is a moist, humid environment that is provided to it usually after one takes a shower. Although mold is a headache, it can be easily removed by the methods provided to you below.

It may take a few hours to get rid of the mold on the shower grout, depending on how long the mold has been there. Remember to act on the moldy area as soon as you see it. Otherwise it may spread to larger areas, and may even be hazardous to your health. Wear gloves while cleaning mold. Also, always do a spot test of the solution on an inconspicuous area of the shower grout before using it on the entire mold. Some cleaning solutions can discolor some objects.

Method One (Using Bleach)

Things that you will require:

·      Bleach
·      Container such as a disposable pan
·      Paper towels
·      Q-tips
·      Water

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   To start with cleaning the mold from the shower grout process, pour some bleach in a container, preferably a disposable pan.

2.   Now, grab some paper towels, dip them in the bleach present in the container, and place them such that they are in contact against the moldy area. Pouring bleach directly on to the mold can result in a mess, and may also drip to areas that do not have mold on them.

3.   Leave the towels in place for the night. You may also use q-tips to press the paper towels against the mold present in the corners.

4.   The next morning, remove the paper towels. The mold should have disappeared or loosened from the shower grout. Use a toothbrush to scrub off the mold that remains but has loosened.

5.   Repeat the above process if mold is still visible.

6.   Rinse the Shower Grout well with plain water.

7.   Let the Shower Grout dry completely. Leave the bathroom door open, and turn on the exhaust fan. You may also use paper towels to wipe the shower grout dry.

Method Two (Using Hydrogen Peroxide)

Things that you will require:

·      Container (bowl)
·      Water
·      Hydrogen peroxide
·      Clean rags or paper towels

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   The first step towards the removal of mold from the shower grout involves making the cleaning solution for it. To do so, fill a container with 1 part plain water, and 1 part hydrogen peroxide. Mix both the ingredients.

2.   Apply the cleaning solution on the moldy area with a soft, clean cloth or paper towel.

3.   Scrub the grout with the cloth or towel in a circular motion so that the mold is removed.  Move from one small area to another. You may also use a toothbrush.

4.   When the entire mold has been removed, rinse the shower grout with plain water.

5.   Make sure that the shower grout dries completely. Open the window and door. You may also set up a fan or a dehumidifier to get rid of the extra moisture.
