How to Remove Hard Water Stains from Glass Windows


Hard water stains on glass windows are very common. They may result because of variety of reasons. Imagine that you travel a lot and you are unable to look after your house. Your house is situated in a place where it rains a lot. When you come back to your house you notice hard water stains on your glass windows because of the rain. Well in that case, you do not have to worry as such stains can be removed easily. The methods listed in this article will not cost you much in removing such stains and will require materials that will be easily available at your home or at a nearby super store. You can adopt anyone of the following methods to remove Hard Water Stains from Glass Windows.

Method 1 (using Vinegar and Baking Soda).

Things you will be required:

·      Vinegar.
·      Baking soda.
·      Sponge.
·      Damp towel.
·      Squeegee for removing excess water.

  If the stains are stubborn you may also require following two things

·      Cream stove top cleaner.
·      Dry towels.

Steps:

1.   First of all, you have to combine the paste of vinegar and baking soda together. Mix it well especially the baking soda so that the paste is perfect.

2.   Apply the paste with a help of a scrubbing sponge on glass in circular motions for perfection. Allow the paste to be applied on for at least fifteen to twenty whole minutes.

3.   Then with the help of a damp towel you should wipe of the paste altogether but very gently. Any excess water can be removed with the help of a squeegee.

4.   If the stain still persists, then your next step should be to apply a cream stove top cleaner to the remaining part of the stain. It should be applied on with the help of a scrubbing sponge in circular motion. Allow it to be applied on for twenty minutes or minimum fifteen minutes.

5.   You may remove the dry paste with the help of a dry towel and you will be free of any hard water stains on your glass windows.


Method 2 (Vinegar and Bicarbonate Soda)

Things you will be required:

·      Lemon juice.
·      Vinegar
·      Newspapers or tissue paper for pre cleaning of windows.
·      Soft cloth.
·      Warm water.
·      Soap.
·      Four table spoon of bicarbonate soda.
·      Squeegee.

Steps:                                                                                         

1.   Before you start up with any cleaning process what you need to do is to clean the glass window so that any dust particles are quickly removed. This can be done wither by wiping with newspapers or soft tissues or if you want to be more effective what you can do is mix some soap in warm water and using clean soft cloth you may wipe the glass windows.

2.   Then make a paste of four table spoon of bi carbonate soda and one table spoon of vinegar together. You should mix it very well to make a perfect paste.

3.   Then with the help of soft clean cloth you may apply and gently rub the paste on the glass window. Keep the paste applied on for at least two to three whole hours.

4.   Then with some warm water and clean cloth you can remove the paste away very gently. You may clean the cloth again and again as you are wiping away the paste so that you do not paste back the solution again.

5.   Then you may wash the glass with a solution of warm water and lemon juice. You can then wipe it with a squeegee to remove any excess water.

6.   Then with a clean tissue you may wipe the glass windows and there will be no further hard water stains on it.

Tips and Warnings:

1.   Just to be careful next time makes sure you always dry the windows whenever it rains. Or you may hire the services if you cannot do the job of drying regularly.

2.   Never use sandpaper to remove hard water stains especially on glass windows as may lead to scratches on the glass, in which case you will have to replace the windows altogether.

3.   In method two do not use extremely hot water as it can be damaging for your glass.

4.   Wear gloves when cleaning glass so that you do not mark your finger prints on your glass which may look really ugly.
