Remove Red Wine Stains using Bleach and Oil Soap

The method which we shall be deploying in this particular case makes use of various cleaning agents such as oil soap, baking soda and bleach etc. These various ingredients will enable you to get rid of red wine stains from wood owing to their strong stain-lifting properties.

Things that you will require:

·      Wet absorbent cloth/towel
·      Strong bleach
·      Latex gloves
·      Oil soap
·      Hot water
·      Cloths
·      Baking soda
·      Mineral oil
·      Lemon/linseed oil

Steps that you need to take:

1.  The first step deals with blotting up the red wine stain primarily with the help of a wet towel or wet absorbent cloth.

2.  If you feel that the wine stain has already begun to set in the wood, then take hold of undiluted strong bleach without any further ado. Apply this bleach onto the wine stained area and leave it sitting there for some time, approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

3.  Afterwards, gently wipe it off with the help of a clean and soft cloth.

4.  If the stain is small and mild, it would have come out of the wooden surface by merely applying bleach on it. However if it doesn’t, then you need to lay your hands on oil soap.

5.  Make a mixture of oil soap with hot water according to the care instructions given. Pour this oil soap onto a clean, soft cloth and use it to scrub the stained area gently.

6.  If the stain still happens to persist, then your last resort could be a mixture of baking soda, some mineral oil and some lemon or linseed oil. Mix these three ingredients thoroughly so that a paste is formed.

7.  Apply this paste onto the wine stained area and work it onto the stain by rubbing it gently. Make sure that you work in the direction of the wooden grain. Allow this paste to sit onto the stain for some time, approximately half an hour and then wipe it off gently.

8.  Finally, take a clean, dry cloth and use it to wipe off any traces of the stain or cleaning agents from the wood.

Warning:

You need to make use of latex gloves while handling bleach as it can be very dangerous.
