How to remove Blood Stains from Shirt

Blood stains on clothes might freak you out, no matter how trivial the injury or accident might be. It’s just that blood has all those horrible connotations associated with it which are enough to scare anyone out of their wits. Yet, despite this fact human beings are prone to accidents and the possibility of incurring blood stains can’t be negated.

Therefore, it is mandatory to get rid of these aggravating blood stains. Given below are some effective remedies which will ensure that these stains are removed satisfactorily. Just make sure that you act as swiftly as possible, since removing fresh blood stains is easier as compared to the dried ones. However, hereby we would be providing you with tips to battle both these kinds of stains. Follow the directions given below and end up with clean and stain-free clothes.

Method One (For Fresh Stains)

The following method will help you take care of fresh blood stains. The steps used are comparatively mild as compared to the latter method. However it also ensures satisfactory stain removal.

Things that you will require:

·      Cold water
·      2 table spoons of salt and ammonia
·      Dish washing liquid/liquid laundry detergent
·      Bar of soap
·      Hydrogen per oxide

Steps that you need to take:

1.  First of all, you need to place the inner side of the stained fabric under a tap of running cold water. This cold water would flush away majority of the stain, since it is fresh and wouldn’t be set in too deeply.

2.  After flushing the stain with cold water, apply 2 table spoons of salt or ammonia onto the blood stained area. These are absorbing agents and would absorb maximum blood from the stain.

3.  Allow the salt/ ammonia to sit on the stain for some time and then brush it away.

4.  Next, pour a little amount of dish washing liquid or liquid laundry detergent onto the stain and agitate it slightly with the help of your fingers.

5.  Continue rubbing gently until the stain disappears, however if it persists, then treat the garment with hydrogen per oxide. Per oxide has a bleaching effect and it will help the stain to get out of the fabric.

6.  Finally, wash the fabric like you normally do but make sure that you make use of cold water.

Method Two (For Dried Stains)

Since the removal of dried blood stains is a tad harder, therefore the following method deploys a stronger cleaning agent to enable you to get rid of these gruesome stains.

Things that you will require:

·      Lemon juice
·      Water
·      Baking soda
·      Damp paper towel/cloth
·      Vinegar

Steps that you need to take:

1.  Primarily, you need to make a lemon juice solution. To make this solution, you will have to mix equal 2 parts of lemon juice and 1 part of water.

2.  Mix the solution thoroughly and then pour it directly onto the blood stain. Agitate this solution by rubbing it gently and work it onto the stain. Continue this procedure until the stain lightens considerably.

3.  Afterwards, make a baking soda paste by combining 2 parts of baking soda to 1part of water. The consistency of this paste would be slightly thick.

4.  Apply this paste onto the blood stain and allow it to sit there for a while, approximately half an hour so that it can carry out its cleansing action effectively.

5.  After 30 minutes, take hold of a damp paper towel/cloth and use it to remove this very paste. Hopefully, by this time the stain would have become a part of history.

6.  Finally, launder it like you normally do and as a last cue, add a cup of vinegar into the rinsing water.

7.  Eventually, allow the fabric to air dry. If you want to place it in dryer, and then primarily ensure that the stain has been removed effectively, otherwise heat from the dryer might set it in further.

Tips and Warnings:

1.  Blood is a protein stain and owing to this reason, you should NEVER use hot water with it, as it will only set the stain further, instead of removing it.

2.  Always use diluted hydrogen per oxide as it is quite probable that it might damage your fabric’s surface.

3.  Meat tenderizer and club soda are also effective cleaning agents when it comes to stain removal of blood from clothes.

4.  Moreover, now a day’s commercial cleaning agents are also readily available.
