How to remove butter stains from cotton

Were you munching your favorite ham and grease burger distractedly, while devoting your entire attention to your friend’s gossip; and before you knew you had butter stains all over your new cotton blouse? Or had you invited your sister and her little kids over for dinner and they wiped their little hands full of butter on your white cotton linen? Each one of us has gone through this butter disaster at some point of our lives or will probably do so in future because when there is butter, there is no avoiding butter stains.

These butter stains are nasty and look pretty intimidating on cotton. Now you definitely would want to get rid of these annoying stains, instead of getting rid of your new cotton blouse. This is where we step in to help you take care of stains of the like kind. Following method is pretty simple yet will surely yield satisfactory results.

Before we start elaborating the procedure, it is vital for you to understand that time is a precious commodity, particularly when it comes to stain removal. Therefore the sooner you act, the easier will the removal be.

Butter Stain Removal using dish soap and laundry pre-treatment spray

The ingredients for this method are easily available in every household. The key for its success lies in taking prompt action and following the procedure adequately. When you are done with the procedure, hopefully you will end up with clean and stain-free cotton.

Things that you will require:

·      Cool water
·      Hot water
·      Liquid dish soap
·      Dull knife or spoon
·      Laundry detergent
·      Laundry pre-treatment spray

Steps that you need to take:

1.   First step involves scraping off the excess butter from the stain, using a dull knife or spoon. Although apparently it is very simple, yet you have to be extremely cautious that you don’t end up spreading the stain further.

2.   Apply liquid dish soap onto the stain. Agitate the soap lightly with your fingers so that the butter stain is loosened.

3.   Once, you have applied the dish soap and loosened the stain to some extent, rinse the stain with cool water so that both the soap and butter are removed. It is better if you work from the back side of the cotton fabric, while rinsing.

4.   Next, take a laundry pre-treatment spray. Spray it on the butter stain and let it sit in for some time approximately five minutes. This will further loosen the stain and help it to get out.

5.   Afterwards, launder the fabric as you usually do. However, for laundering the cotton fabric, it is best that you use the hottest water possible to get rid of any stain remnants.

6.   If the butter stain still hasn’t come off entirely, then repeat the steps 2 to 5.

Precaution:

Make sure that the stain has been removed, before placing the fabric in the dryer. Otherwise heat from the dryer will set the stain further, making its removal a difficulty, and at times even an impossibility.

Tip:

If you are entrapped in such circumstances where you cannot treat the stain promptly, then take some salt and sprinkle it on the stain. The salt will absorb maximum butter and make its removal easier when you start treating it later on.
