How to remove Grease Stains from jeans

Grease stains find their way on jeans very conveniently if you are into cars and work on your vehicle on an off day. Since car work requires you to lie down on the floor and go under to check the pipes of your car, you are bound to get grease stains on the jeans where they are most visible. These stains look horrible especially if they get on your favorite pair that you have spent years growing into.

Grease stains can be tricky to get rid of when they are on jeans. They are stubborn because grease sticks to the fibers making it hard to clean and even if wash the grease stains they leave behind a sticky mark which is extremely irritating to touch and look at. This is precisely why we recommend the following methods, as pre-wash treatments, which are easy and simple to follow. They also require very little time and the effects are satisfactory, resulting in a successful stain removal.

Method 1 (Using Cornstarch and Dishwashing Liquid)

Things that you will require:

·      Butter knife
·      Cleaning towels
·      Dishwashing liquid
·      Water
·      Cornstarch
·      Tooth brush

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Remove the access grease with the help of the butter knife. Make sure you scrape inwards i.e. towards the center of the stain so that the fresh grease doesn’t get on the unaffected area of the jeans. Clean the edge of the knife every time the grease comes off.

2.   Now take the cleaning towel and rub on the surface of the stain so that all the remaining grease is cleaned.

3.   Scatter cornstarch on the stain, making sure that you cover it completely. Leave it on for about ten to fifteen minutes. The cornstarch will absorb the grease out of the weave of the jeans.

4.   Take the tooth brush and rub the cornstarch into the fabric. This will more effectively remove the grease stains. After that brush away the cornstarch.

5.   Now put a few drops of dishwashing liquid directly on the stain and add few drop of water to it. Start scrubbing with the tooth brush. The lemon in the dishwashing liquid will cause the grease to leave the weave of the jeans and the stain removal will be successful.

6.   Wash the jeans with tap water and then throw them in the laundry. Wash as u usually would. Air dry after the laundry is complete. For more methods proceed below.

Method 2 (Using Dishwashing Liquid Only)

Things that you will require:

·      Warm to hot water
·      Paper towels & cleaning towel
·      Dishwashing liquid
·      Laundry detergent
·      Tooth brush

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Turn the jeans inside out and locate the back side of the stain. For best results fold a cleaning towel on the stain side so that it absorbs the grease coming off.

2.   Now pour enough dish washing liquid on the backside of the stain so cover it. Leave it on for about five minutes so that it loosens the grease.

3.   Run hot water on the jeans. The hotter the better. Rub the backside with tooth brush.

4.   Now remove the cleaning towel and put the jeans in a washing machine and wash it using very hot water. Pour the laundry detergent in and leave it in for two minutes.

5.   After two minutes take the jeans out and turn the stain side out to check if the stains have been removed.

6.   If at this point the stains have lightened but haven’t been completely removed, repeat step from one to four. By the end of this process the stain will be completely removed.
