How to Remove Mold from Upholstery



It is very important to understand as to why a mold might grow at a certain place before one goes about curing and cleaning it. Things you will be required:

·       Large brush. A broom may even work in this case.
·       Vacuum.
·       Sunlight or portable heater or fan.
·       Rubbing alcohol.
·       Water.
·       Sponge or rag.
·       Liquid mold fungicide.
·       Spraying bottle.
·       Upholstery steam cleaner.

Steps:


1.   If the upholstery is placed in your room then it is better that you move it outside and brush it with a broom or large scrubbing brush to clean it from dust particles and other unwanted stuff.

2.   You may then vacuum it after cleaning it with the brush. Vacuum it from all the areas and not just where there is stain. After doing that you can clean the vacuum so next time you are safe to use it.

3.   For five to ten hours place your upholstery in peak sunlight because sunlight is very effecting in removing moisture and any dampness that might be in upholstery. After that you can place it near portable heater or under fan for more effective drying.

4.   Mix rubbing alcohol into water and mix it well. Dip a sponge in solution and wipe it on the stained area.

5.   Spray the stain with a liquid mold fungicide. This will be very effective in cleaning heavy molds.

6.   You can use an upholstery steam cleaner, if you do not have it you can also take it on rent. This will completely take out the mold and finish it from deep down the upholstery.


Tips and Warnings:

1.   Do not use any cleaning product that can add to moisture.

2.   Wear rubber gloves when cleaning.

3.   Do not soak your upholstery first, as this is a common mistake that many make.

4.   Do not wash your upholstery with a detergent.

5.   Do not use sharp stuff on your upholstery.

6.   The key to removing stain is to remove it as soon as possible.
