How To Remove Rust Stains From Bath Tub?




Who would want to take a bath in a bath tub which is full of rust stains? The answer is simple that is no one. Obviously you will not be willing to install a new bath tub in the short span of time because that will be very expensive and time consuming. The best method would be to simply remove the rust stain from the bath tub easily.

Whether you are living in a new house or an old house such rust stains are common in both types of homes, because of various factors such as weather, rain water trapped in an old house. In case of new houses chemicals that may be on the bath tub in the process of building and construction.

You can use one of the following methods depending upon the material available to remove Rust Stains from bathtub.

Method 1 (using some acid base cleaner)

Things you will be required:

·      Clean water.
·      Stiff nylon brush.
·      Alkaline cleaner. (can use any one)
                 i.       Dishwashing detergent
                ii.       Window cleaner
·      Acid based cleanser. (can use any one)
                 i.       Lemon juice + vinegar
                ii.       White Vinegar.
               iii.       Borax with hot water.
              iv.       Cream of tartar
               v.       Oxalic acid.

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Using method one can easily remove rust stains from bath tub, using the materials mentioned above.

2.   Firstly, make sure that your entire wash room or toilet is dry. If it is not dry make sure to dry it up before you start the cleaning process. Make it sure that especially the area around and on the stain is dried up as it will aid up in effective cleaning of the area.

3.   The next step after drying involves applying the acid based cleaner which depends on the availability and choice. The reason why we have to use acid cleaners are many, but one which is very important is that acid based cleaners help to break the stain particles that have become soft over the years. The rust stain will be softened by the help of acid based cleaners.

4.   After you have used the cleaner, you can apply the solution on and around the rust stain and wait for maximum thirty minutes. Lemon juice and vinegar tends to make great solution. Others include white vinegar and Borax. There can be many other solutions that can be made with the materials mentioned above depending on the availability and budget.

5.   Then, after thirty minutes make sure to scrub the area effectively and gently with a nylon brush.

6.   After that it is very important to neutralize the acid that has been used previously. However, before you do that, make sure to rinse the area as well as the solution very carefully and with full attention. After that, one can neutralize the acid with the help of alkaline.

7.   If your bathtub still has some Rust Stains visible, one can repeat the process until effective results are visible. For more methods read below.

Method 2 (Abrasive powder Method)

Things you will be required:

·      Abrasive powder.
·      Clean water.
·      Sponge.
·      Pumice stone.

Steps:

1.   Using method two one can easily remove rust stains by pouring little abrasive powder on the stains and after that some water on it.

2.   Scrub the rust stain with green side of the sponge for effective scrubbing.

3.   If stains are very hard one can also use pumice stones for scrubbing purposes.

4.   After putting the solution, scrub it for fifteen minutes after which the stain will be removed completely.

Method 3 (Some Quick Methods)

Things you will be required:

·      Commercial cleaners (Without bleach).
·      Shampoo which is easily available at home.
·      Tri sodium Phosphates.

Steps:

1.   Under method three one can remove the stain using commercial cleaners which are easily available in the markets.

2.   Under this method one can also use a shampoo to clean the area after which the area can be cleaned by rinsing it with water.

3.   However, if the Rust Stains are really hard one can also apply trisodium phosphates for more effective results

Tips and Warnings:

1.   Make sure not to use bleach as it can damage the tub.

2.   Make sure to wear gloves as chemicals can affect your skin.

3.   Time yourself when applying the mixture on the desired area.
