How to Remove Blood Stains From Cotton Clothes


Worried about an injury that has destroyed your new white cotton shirt. Well you do not have to worry much about it has there are numerous ways through which you can get rid of these blood stains. The methods will vary according to materials, how old the stain and through various other ways.


Getting stains away from cotton is not as hard as it seems. Only little effort is required if you are unwilling to give your shirt away to expensive laundry cleaners. There are many methods enlisted for the removal of Blood Stains from Cotton Clothes. These methods are as effective as any professional cleaners; you just need time and require materials available at home. You can adopt any one of the following methods.

Method 1 (Using cold water and colour safe bleach)


Things you will be required:

·      Cold water.
·      Liquid detergent.
·      Color safe bleach
·      Bucket.

Steps:

1.   Soak your shirt in bucket of cold water. Never ever used hot water as it will more harden the blood stain.

2.   If the stain is dried up add few drops of liquid detergent along with color safe bleach.

3.   Keep it soaked in for ten minutes.

4.   Take the shirt out and rub it at the stained area with your hands.

5.   Wash the shirt as usual by using warm water and normal laundry detergent.

6.   If the Blood Stains still present soaks it again for another 20-30 minutes in cold water containing liquid detergent and color safe bleach and again wash it as usual.

Method 2 (Using Ammonia)


Things you will be required:

·      Cold water.
·      Ammonia or any other strong alkali.
·      Hydrogen peroxide.

Steps:

1.   Dip your shirt in cold water, cold water is very effective for removing blood stains. Normally we use warm water to remove other stains but in case of blood stains start with cold water.

2.   You can firstly wash the shirt normally before going towards the ammonia solution.

3.   If the stain is not removed by normal washing apply few drops of ammonia on the stained portion of your shirt. The stain will be removed.

4.   If the Blood Stains still present you can go for hydrogen peroxide. But be careful while using it as it may fade up your cloth.

Method 3 (Meat Tenderizer)

Things you will be required:

·      Meat tenderizer.
·      Icy water.
·      Bucket.

Steps:

1.   Soak your shirt in icy water, the longer you soak it in the quicker the stain will go.

2.   Add some meat tenderizer into small amount of water and make a thick paste.

3.   Apply that paste on the stained area for ten minutes whole.

4.   Rub the Blood stains and give a regular wash to the shirt.

5.   Shirt will be stain free.

Method 4 (Using Alcohol)

Things you will be required:

·      Any regular alcohol.
·      Water.
·      Sponge.

Steps:

1.   Take your regular alcohol and apply it on the stain area. It should be applied only on the stain area.

2.   Rub the stain with green side of the sponge.

3.   Rub it for ten to twenty minutes.

4.   While rubbing if the stain is not fading away you may apply more of alcohol.

5.   Then wash it with water and the Blood Stains will be eliminated completely.

Method 5 (Using Salt & Chlorine Bleach)

Things you will be required:

·      Liquid washing powder.
·      A soft sponge.
·      Bleach that does not fade away colors.
·      Salt.
·      Spoon.
·      Buckets of water.

Steps:

1.   Soak your shirt in bucket of water before washing it with soap.

2.   Add one table spoon of salt on blood stain area.

3.   Rub the stain area with the green side of sponge; rub until the stain becomes light.

4.   Then soak the cloth again in bucket of water and either adds bleach or liquid washing powder.

5.   Leave the shirt soaked in for ten minutes.

6.   The shirt will be stained free.


Method 6 (Commercial Cleaner)

Things you will be required:

·      Money.
·      Time.
·      Commercial cleaner.

Steps:

1.   If the stain is really old and you do not trust on your abilities you may give your shirt for one day to a commercial cleaner.

2.   You can negotiate the price for it and they will guarantee that the Bloods Stain will be removed and your shirt will seem as it’s recently bought.

3.   You can ask a friend for some reliable commercial cleaners who can lend your shirt back on time.

Tips and Warnings:

1.   Use hydrogen peroxide only if the shirt is hundred percent cotton, if it is not then you may note that there are chances that the shirt may get destroyed.

2.   Do not use hot water on cotton shirts as it can further destroy shirt.

3.   Use gloves when handling ammonia or meat tenderizer.

4.   It is important to remove the stain as soon as possible, else the stain will set in as it becomes old and it can become difficult to remove it later on.

5.   When applying alcohol makes sure you are near sink as it may drip on the floor and make your area messy.
