How to remove mustard stains from cotton

Were you having a large yummilicious helping of mayo garlic fries adorned with mustard sauce? But accidentally while munching on some fries and subsequently gossiping with your friend, you spilled some mustard sauce down your shirt front. You must have felt aghast as mustard contains turmeric which leaves behind a stubborn yellow stain.

You definitely wouldn’t want to ruin your favorite cotton shirt and just to ensure that it doesn’t ruined, we step in with our handy and effective tips. These tips will make sure that you get rid of these aggravating stains from scratch so that they become a part of history. Just make sure that you are swift in taking action. This is because the longer these mustard stains will stay on your cotton clothes, the further will they set in and as a corollary the more difficult will their removal become.

Things that you will require:

·      Rubbing Alcohol
·      Dish Soap
·      Absorbent material
·      Dull knife/ spoon
·      Hot water
·      Clean cloth

Steps that you need to take:

1.   First of all, take an absorbent cloth and place it on the inner side of the stained area so that once you treat it with the cleaning solution, the stain wouldn’t seep through the fabric, ultimately making you end up with a bigger mess to worry about.

2.   Then, you need to scrape off the excess mustard off the stain with the help of a dull knife or a spoon. This should be done with extreme caution and care so that the stain doesn’t spread any further.

3.   To take care of the stain you need to make a cleaning solution which can do wonders. To make this spot cleaner, mix three parts of liquid dish soap with one part rubbing alcohol.

4.   Using a clean cloth, apply this cleaning solution onto the stain and rub the mustard stain gently.

5.   Allow it to sit on the stain for some time, approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

6.   Once this time span this over, rinse the mustard stained area carefully with hot water. It is quite probable that alcohol would make the stain appear darker but you need not panic because it would rinse out.

7.   Lastly, wash the fabric like you normally do and allow it to air dry.

Warning:

Do not apply anything containing ammonia onto the mustard stain, as ammonia would set the turmeric stain further.
