A candle-lit dinner followed by a
soothing drink is perhaps what comprises a perfect night. Yet the perfection of
this beautiful night is marred by candle wax which might drip on your favorite
table cloth. The situation tends to be even worse, if this candle wax accidentally
drips on your pants or skirts and ruins them as well.
These colored candle wax
stains can be difficult to remove, since this stain happens to be a combination
one, i.e. oily/ waxy combined with a dye. Owing to this particular reason, it
ought to be given a special treatment.
Prior to the stain removal
treatment, what you have to do in any situation where you are faced with a
candle wax stain is to primarily scrape off the excess wax from the stain using
a dull knife. This is followed by the removal procedure. If apt and swift
measures are taken, then you would be able to successfully remove any wax
remnants from your table linen or clothes successfully by using any one of the
following methods.
Method One (Using paper towels and an iron)
The following method
enables you to get rid of any wax stains from your clothes by melting them. It
is pretty simple and makes use of merely two ingredients. This method deploys
iron and paper towels so that the wax is melted, absorbed and consequently
removed from your clothes.
Things that you will require:
· Kraft paper/paper towels
· Iron
Steps that you need to take:
1. After scraping off the excess wax from the cloth as mentioned in the
introduction, take hold of some paper towels or Kraft paper.
2. Place these paper towels or Kraft paper on top of the stain and below
the stain as well.
3. Make sure that you place several layers of this paper underneath the
stain so that an appropriate absorbing surface is made available.
4. Next, take an iron and adjust it on a low heat setting.
5. Iron the paper towel or Kraft paper placed on top of the stain.
6. Continue this procedure until the wax is drawn out of the stain and is
absorbed by the Kraft paper.
7. For effective and economic absorption, keep on moving the paper around
so that all of it is satisfactorily utilized in candle wax absorption.
8. Hopefully, repetition of the above procedure will draw out all of the candle
wax from the stain, leaving you with a stain free fabric.
9. Lastly, launder the clothes like you usually do.
Tip:
If iron is not available or
if you do not want to go for it, then using a steam cleaner is also an option
worth considering. Apply steam for about 10 minutes and then dab the spot with
an absorbent towel. Hopefully steam will melt the candle wax and draw it out of
the stain.
Method two (Freezing the Wax)
Although, this method is
contrary to the one mentioned above, yet it can also guarantee equally
successful results. While, previously you were melting the wax in order to
remove it, this time you would be freezing the wax so that you can just snap it
right off your clothes.
Things
that you will require:
· Freezer
· Rubber bands
· Boiling water
· Large bowl
Steps
that you need to take:
1.
Primarily,
take the wax stained cloth and place it in the freezer.
2.
When
you feel that the candle wax has turned brittle and can be easily cracked; take
out the cloth and remove the wax by breaking it off.
3.
This
action would help you to get rid of the maximum candle wax from clothes. For
the removal of wax traces which have been left behind, take a large bowl and
spread the stained area over it.
4.
Secure
it with rubber bands, and then pour some boiling water over it.
5.
The
heat from this boiling water will draw out any candle wax remnants effectively
and melt them
6.
Lastly,
you can wash the clothes like you normally do, and restore it to its original
state.
Tips:
1.
If
you want your candle to drip less and burn more, then place it in the freezer
for an hour or two, before lightening it. The results will be decidedly
fruitful.
2.
Small
candle wax stains on your clothes can also be treated with a large dollop of
vegetable oil. Rub the wax stain with this oil. Eventually wipe off any excess
oil with an absorbent towel and wash the fabric like you usually do.
