How to remove Diesel Stains from driveway

Driveways are a very important part of one’s home. It is the part of the house that makes a good impression on strangers because this is the part of the house that anyone sees first before entering. Diesel leaking from your car may be the cause of the diesel stains on your driveway. These stains are quite harmful to the floor of the driveway because it causes cracks. If your driveway isn’t well kept, it might even lower the value of your property.

Diesel stains may be very hard to clean once they have set. The best solution is to take care of the stains as soon as you notice them. Some people may recommend that you paint over the driveway but don’t give up easily. First try the following methods that have proven to be effective.

Method 1 (Cat-Litter Solution)

Cat litter may seem to be serving one purpose alone i.e. feeding the cats but who knew it has another use. For this method you may use cat litter of any brand as long as it is clay based. The litter will soak up the diesel oil from the driveway but you will need to tap into the reserves of your patience because this method may take a while but the results will be worth the wait.

Things that you will require:

·      Clay based cat litter

·      Scrubbing brush

·      Tri-sodium phosphate

·      Boiling water

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Pour a thick layer of the clay based cat litter onto the diesel stains on your driveway. Do this every day for a week and the result will show if you need to follow the next few steps.

2.   In case the stains are very stubborn, pour the tri-sodium phosphate onto the stains and scrub with the hard brush. Leave it on for about 5 minutes.

3.   Rinse the stained area with the boiling hot water. Make sure you get rid of all the TSP. This will result in complete diesel stain removal.

Method 2 (Dishwashing Liquid Solution)

This is an extremely simple, easy and effective method. The dishwashing liquid has the tendency to clean up all kinds of oily stains from your dishes but since its composition is so that it will get rid of all kinds of oils, it is recommended by many.

Things that you will require:

·      Dishwashing liquid

·      Warm or hot water

·      Scrubbing brush

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Pour the dishwashing liquid onto the stained driveway. Add a bit of water which is enough to create foam.

2.   Now scrub the stained area with the scrubbing brush. Let the foam develop.  Leave the soapy solution on for about thirty minutes.

3.   Scrub the stains again with the brush and then while using the hot water rinse off the dishwashing liquid solution.

4.   In case the stains still remain, repeat steps 1 to 3, this time using water at a slightly higher temperature than before.
