How to remove Cement Stains from tiles

While renovating the kitchen or a bathroom, workers can be very sloppy at cleaning up after themselves. They may leave behind a big mess, which can be easily cleaned but cement stains left behind not only are hard to clean but look terrible. White cement or black, both are unappealing to the eye especially when you just had new tiles put in.

Cement stains must be taken care of immediately not just because they look back but also because as time passes, the bond between the cement and the tile only becomes stronger and therefore harder to clean. Avoid the hard task of cleaning the stubborn stains and clean them out immediately with the following methods. You can adopt any one of the following methods to remove cement stains from tiles.

Method 1 (Using Vinegar Solution)

The vinegar method is not only easy, but will immediately take care of all the stains on the tiles that have been freshly left behind by your workers. The best part is that all the things required for this method are readily available and will only take a few hours of your time.

Things that you will require:

·      Pure vinegar

·      Empty bowl

·      Cleaning towels

·      Water

·      Scouring pad

·      Dishwashing liquid

·      Water

·      Gloves

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Put on the gloves to protect your hands and then take a cleaning towel and pour vinegar on it so that it in drenched with in. make sure that the cleaning towel is big enough to cover the cement stains on the tiles. If the towel isn’t big enough drench two or three of them in vinegar.

2.   Lay the towels on the cement stains. Leave them on the stains for at least two hours. Make sure that during this time the towels don’t go dry. If they dry up pour some vinegar on them again.

3.   Remove the towels. The vinegar would have loosened the cement enough to be scrubbed off. Now take the scouring pad and scrub the cement off the floor this will remove the stains from the tiles.

4.   Once all the stains have been scrubbed off, pour the liquid dishwasher onto the area and by using the sponge scrub the floor.

5.   Wash the floor with water and let it dry. This will remove any cement stains left leaving your tiles as good as new.

Method 2 (Using Acid Solution)

This method is for the stains that have been there on your tiles for a long time and the conventional and easier methods don’t work on those stains. Make sure that you are extremely careful when making use of this method because it is dangerous to work with a strong acid. This method has proven to be successful for all the stubborn stains left by cement on the tiles. The items required for this method might be a bit hard to find because acid isn’t sold everywhere.

Things that you will require:

·      Muriatic acid

·      Water

·      Wiper

·      Metal/hard bristle brush

·      A large bucket

·      Gloves

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Put on the gloves and add a gallon on water and one part of muriatic acid to the bucket. This is the safe amount of ratio which should be used. Always add acid into the water. You can also use sulfamic acid. It is a bit lighter than muriatic acid.

2.   Now pour the mixture onto the tile slowly and preferably with a bucket cup so that it doesn’t get on you and your clothes. Make sure you don’t splash when doing this.

3.   Now let the stains on the tiles remain in the acid mixture for about four or five minutes.

4.   Rinse the area with water and use a wiper to wipe the acid.

5.   By this time the cement would have loosened up. Start brushing with a hard bristle brush.

6.   If the cement stains on the tiles are old and don’t come off, pour some more of the mixture onto them and leave for another five minutes. Then rinse the area and use the brush on them again.

7.   Once the cement comes off, rinse the area again with water and wipe clean the loose cement.
