How to Remove Grease Stains From Upholstery


Grease stains are a menace for many people. Not only do they create mess but also they are sometimes difficult for people to remove. People have tried numerous detergents and washing powders but stain has still been a pain for many people.

Depending on the type of upholstery, there are various methods through which people can remove grease stains without much effort, without much money and without wasting much time. You must be wondering as to how this is possible. Well this is possible when you implement methods and techniques that use materials that are easily available at home and when you do not require services of any third party as you can easily remove such stains yourself. You can adopt any one of the following methods to remove Grease Stains from Upholstery.


Method 1 (For Fabric upholstery)

Things you will be required:

·      A plastic utensil.
·      Paper towels.
·      Baking soda.
·      Vacuum cleaner.
·      Dry cleaning solvent.
·      Piece of cloth.
·      Bleach.

Steps:

1.   First scrap any excess grease with the help of a plastic utensil by scrapping.

2.   With the help of paper towels blot the stain area so that grease can come up.

3.   Cover the grease stain area with baking soda by sprinkling baking soda all over it and allow it to settle in for at least twenty minutes so that the baking soda is able to absorb grease.

4.   Using the brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner you have to remove baking soda from the stain area.

5.   Then wet a piece of cloth with a dry cleaning solvent. With the piece of cloth, sponge the dry cleaning solvent onto the stain area.

6.   To remove the stain blot the area with a dry piece of cloth so that stain can be effectively removed.

7.   Finally, the Grease Stain will be removed from your fabric Upholstery.


Method 2 (For Furniture Upholstery)

Things you will be required:

·      Corn starch.
·      Vacuum hose attachment.
·      Grease cutting dish soap.
·      Soft scrubbing brush.
·      Rag.
·      Cool water.
·      Ammonia.
·      Cup of warm water.

Steps:

1.   Pour corn starch on the stain area covering the area but not over adding it, allow it to settle in for five to ten minutes.

2.   Using the hose attachment of a vacuum, you must vacuum the powder up.

3.   Then apply grease cutting dish soap, that is few drops of it on the stain and rub it with the help of soft scrubbing brush. However, before scrubbing allow the solution to settle in for two to three minutes.

4.   Then moisten a rag with clean water and blot the stain with the help of the rag and make sure the area is left to dry.

5.   After it has dried if you still find stain then mix few drop of ammonia in one forth cup of warm water. Dip rag in the solution and blot the stain area again. Then rub with a soft scrubbing brush until the Grease Stain has been removed.

Tips and Warnings:

1.   The plastic utensil should not be very sharp as the fabric can be destroyed by using sharp utensils.

2.   Gloves should be worn when cleaning. If you do not have a corn starch you may even use a talcum powder as a replacement.
