How to remove candle wax from glass




Generally wax candles come in cute glass containers. These glass jars are usually so pretty that you don’t feel like discarding them. The problem which sprouts its head at this juncture is that despite wanting to keep them, you probably cannot put those glasses to any other use as they have melted wax remnants at their bottom. Moreover, if you try to remove that wax forcefully, all you end up with is broken or scratched glass because usually it is not of a kind to resist heavy treatments.

Method One (Freezing the Wax)

This method has been in rampant use for the removal of candle wax from glass. Although it is convenient as all you have to do is pop out the frozen wax, yet take care that you don’t over freeze it. Otherwise instead of getting rid of candle wax, you will have to get rid of the glass.

Things that you will require:

·      Freezer
·      Baking Sheet

Steps that you need to take:


1.    A very common method employed to remove candle wax from glass is to freeze it.

2.   For this, place the glass with candle wax in it, in a freezer on a baking sheet.

3.   Leave it for a few hours so that it can freeze appropriately.

4.   Take it out the next day, tap lightly at the back of the glass to loosen the wax.

5.   It will easily pop out.

6.   If any wax remains are left, then gently scrub them. Scraping with a knife or spoon won’t be necessary.


Precaution:

Do not over-freeze the wax, as it might result in cracking or shattering of the glass.

Method two (Heating the Wax)

Treating candle wax with heat can result in its effective removal from glass. The right proportion of heat and caution can help you end up with sparkling glass free of all wax remnants.

Things that you will require:

·      Oven
·      Oven mittens
·      Boiling Water

Steps that you need to take:

1.    Another method for candle wax removal involves heating it.

2.   For this, take some boiling water and pour in into the glass containing candle wax.

3.   This heated water will cause the wax to melt and start floating on top of the glass.

4.   Leave it to cool for some time.

5.   Once the water has cooled down, the wax will automatically solidify.

6.   The solidified wax will be floating on top of the glass and can then be easily removed.

7.   If you don’t want to go for boiling water, then you can place the glass in the oven.

8.   Keep the temperature low and make sure that you use oven mittens.

9.   Keep heating the wax, until it melts and can be get rid of easily.

Precaution:

            Heat, glass and wax are a dangerous combination, so always work with extreme care. Moreover avoid overheating the glass.

                                 Method Three (Using Dish Washing Detergent)

Things that you will require:

·      Hot water
·      Dish washing detergent
·      Blunt knife

Steps that you need to take:

1.   This method is pretty simple for the removal of candle wax from glass.

2.   You wouldn’t have to go out of your way to do it.

3.   While you doing you routine dishes, make the water as hot as you can stand it.

4.   Add some dish washing detergent and soak the glass in this hot water.

5.   Let it stay there for some time, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

6.   Meanwhile you can take care of the rest of your dishes.

7.   Wax will have melted by now, and you can effectively get rid of it by giving a slight pull or gently scraping it with a blunt knife.

8.   The remnants can be washed away with the dish washing detergent.

9.   Eventually you will end up with glass which is free of all remains of candle wax.

Precautions:

Make sure that you do not let the melted wax go down the drain. For, it would solidify and cause a blockage, consequently ending up in a lot of trouble for you.
