How to Remove Coke/Pepsi Stains

Carbonated drinks are a must at dinner or lunch time. Not only are they delicious, they also help in digestion when one has eaten too much. 7up or Sprite, especially, is consumed when one is feeling nauseous. But when your child drops Coke or Pepsi on the carpet or on his clothes, the drink can cause large laundry stains, leaving you confused about how to remove them. Remember, treating the stain timely, using the proper ingredients and method can help you get off the stain easily. Scroll below to look at the methods that are to be used when you or any other family member spills Coke or Pepsi on the carpet or the clothes.

·      Firstly, grab a paper towel or any other absorbent material that is near you, and blot the excess drink that is present on the carpet or clothes. Be careful to not spread the stain further into the carpet or the clothes.

·      Secondly, read the label of the carpet or garment that you have spilled the drink on. Some materials get adversely affected by certain products. Hence, be sure you are not using any ingredient that the label tells you not to use.

·      If you find no instructions on the label, you can always contact the manufacturer of the carpet. Another way to determine whether the cleaning solution should be used on the garment is to do a spot test on it. Apply a little bit of the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the carpet or garment. Leave it in place for 2-3 minutes and then remove it. If the solution does not damage the clothes or the carpet, it is safe to be used on the entire stain.

If you think your antique rug has been ruined by the carbonated drink, you need to think again. The method described below provides you with a solution that you need to clean the Coke/Pepsi stain from your carpet.

Things that you will require:

·      2 bowls
·      White vinegar
·      Water

·      Dishwashing liquid
·      Clean towels or cloth
·      Ceramic plate

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   The first step towards the removal of the Coke-Pepsi stain from your carpet requires you to form two separate cleaning solutions. To make the vinegar solution, grab a bowl, and add 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water in it. Mix them completely. Now, grab a second bowl, and add ¼ teaspoon dishwashing liquid with 32 oz lukewarm water. If the stain is an old one, use 8 oz water only. Mix both the ingredients completely.

2.   Now, dip a white, clean cloth in the dishwashing liquid solution, and apply the cloth to the stained area. Press the soaked cloth on the stained area gently for 5 to 10 seconds so that the solution gets absorbed in the carpet.

3.   After you remove the soaked cloth, let the solution remain on the stain for 15 minutes.

4.   After 15 minutes, grab another, dry cloth, and start blobbing the stained area with it. The cloth will slowly absorb the solution from the carpet.

5.   Next, you need to apply the vinegar solution. To do so, grab another clean towel, dip it in the vinegar solution, and apply it to the stained area just like you did before.

6.   Leave the soaked cloth on the stain for 15 minutes.

7.   Place a heavy item, such as a ceramic plate, on top of the cloth.

8.   After the required time has elapsed, remove the plate and the cloth. Soak another clean towel in water, and blot the stained area with it to remove the vinegar solution from the carpet.

9.   To dry the carpet, use a clean towel or cloth. However, do make sure that the carpet dries completely. Else, you may have to face other problems such as mold.

10.   Check if the stain has disappeared. If it has not, repeat the above steps.

How to Remove Mustard Stains

Who does not love mustard? What is a hot dog or a sandwich without mustard? Try eating a hot dog without it, and you will probably not even like it as much! Although mustard, similar to ketchup and mayonnaise, complements many foods, it can ruin your perfectly good day when you find it on your clothes, carpet or the upholstery. Mustard contains turmeric that is generally used to dye fabric. Hence, when mustard drops on your clothes, carpet or upholstery, it is likely to leave a dark yellow stain behind, unless treated quickly and in the proper way.

Before you remove the mustard stains, it is essential that you take care of the following things:

·      First and foremost, read the label of all the ingredients that you are going to use. If anything contains ammonia, do not use it! Ammonia combined with turmeric makes the stain permanent.

·      Secondly, read the label of the item which contains the mustard stain. Check for any instructions regarding any specific ingredient that should be avoided while cleaning it. You may also want to see if it is washable or not.

·      Also, try the cleaning solution on a small, hidden part of the fabric. Apply it for 2 minutes, and when you remove it, see if the cloth has discolored or been damaged in any way. If that is the case, do not use the same cleaning solution on the stain.

·      Gently blot away any excess mustard present on the fabric, ensuring that the stain does not spread. When you have done this, rinse the back of the stain well with cold water.

·      If the stain is old and you know the type of mustard that dropped on the fabric, you can start by first refreshing the stain. To do so, apply the exact same mustard on the stain, leave it in place for 5 minutes, and then start getting the old stain out from the fabric the way you would if it was a fresh stain.
