How to Remove Grease Stains from Clothes

Oil and grease are things that we all like to avoid – in our food, on the kitchen floor, on our driveway, and especially, our clothes. It is easy to get grease on your clothes when cleaning your car, eating or cooking food or when carrying a balm in the pocket of your jacket. No matter how deep or large the stain is, you do not need to worry. This article provides you with efficient and effective ways that can help you remove grease stains from your clothes in a short span of time.

The first thing to remember is that as soon as you get the grease stain on your clothes, blot the stain with a clean paper towel in order to get rid of the excess grease present on the apron, shirt or jeans. Keep doing so till you have gotten out the entire excess grease from the stain. Check the label of the garment before you start cleaning it for any instructions regarding the avoidance of certain ingredients. You should also check whether the garment is washable or not. Also, always test the cleaning solution on a hidden area of the garment. Leave it in place for 2 minutes, and then wash it away. If the solution damages your garment in any way, do not proceed with it, and choose another method. Lastly, wear rubber gloves when cleaning the grease stains from the clothes. Once you have taken all the required measures, proceed with one of the following cleaning methods.

Method One (Using Liquid Dishwashing Detergent and Vinegar)

Don’t throw away your clothes; all you need is your regular liquid dishwashing detergent and some vinegar to clean grease stains from your clothes.

Things that you will require:

·      Liquid dishwashing detergent
·      Old, clean toothbrush
·      Vinegar
·      Water
·      Laundry detergent

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   The first step requires you to pour the liquid dishwashing detergent over the stained clothes such that it covers the entire stain. Use a colorless detergent. In case you cannot get hold of a colorless one, and have to use a colored liquid detergent, dilute it with water first. There are chances that without the dilution, the detergent may stain your clothes.

2.   Secondly, grab an old, clean toothbrush, and start working the liquid detergent into the stain. Move the brush in circular motion, moving from the outward edges towards the inner circle.

3.   Now, to wash away the detergent from the stained clothing, pour vinegar over the stain. Rinse well with vinegar.

4.   Lastly, wash the stained clothing as normal. Let it dry, and check for any remaining stain on the clothes. If there is any, repeat the above steps.

5.   Your clothes should be as good as new now!

Method Two (Using Baby Powder and Liquid Dishwashing Detergent)

This method is easy and simple! No special cleaning solution or techniques are required. Get hold of the required ingredients, and start removing the grease stain from the clothes.

Things that you will require:

·      Baby powder
·      Paper towel
·      Nail Brush
·      Liquid dishwashing detergent
·      Water
·      Old, clean toothbrush

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   The first thing that you will need is a bottle of baby powder. Lay down the stained clothing on a hard surface such as a table, and sprinkle baby powder on the stain such that a layer completely covers the entire stain.

2.   Now, leave the powder in place for 5 to 10 minutes. The time will let the powder absorb the grease from the garment.

3.   To remove the powder from the clothing, make use of a paper towel or a nail brush. Be careful to not spread it all over your clothing.

4.   Once the baby powder has been removed, grab a bottle of your regular liquid dishwashing detergent. Pour 1 to 2 drops on the stain, and add 1 drop of water to it.

5.   Now, hold the garment in your hands, and rub the detergent and the water into the clothing gently with your fingers.

6.   To scrub the stain, use an old, clean toothbrush. Work on the stain in a circular motion.
7.   The last step is to wash the garment as normal, and let it air dry.

8.   Once the clothing has dried, check for any remaining grease that may be visible on the clothing. If it is, repeat the above steps. Otherwise, you are good to go!

Method Three (Using White Chalk and Laundry Detergent)

Have you ever looked at chalk as a thing other than that used to write on black boards? Ranging from food grease stains to lipstick grease stains, chalk can work wonders! Follow the method below to get rid of grease stains from your clothes.

Things that you will require:

·      White chalk
·      Laundry detergent
·      Old toothbrush

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Go to the nearby stationary shop, and buy some chalk if you do not have it at home already.

2.   Rub the chalk on the stained area. Do not use colored chalk; it may leave marks behind.

3.   Leave the chalk in place for 5 to 10 minutes. The time will allow it to absorb the grease from the clothes.

4.   Brush off the excess chalk from the clothes with your fingers or an old toothbrush. You do not need to scrape it away completely.

5.   Lastly, wash the clothes as normal using your regular laundry detergent. Let the clothes air-dry, and when they have, check for any remaining stain on the clothes. If there is any, repeat the above steps, and apply a thicker layer of chalk this time.

Method Four (Using Baking Soda and Dish Soap)

Finding grease stains on your favorite clothes right when you are about to wear them can be frustrating. Although there are numerous ways to get the grease stain out from your clothes, using baking soda and dish soap can prove to be more efficient than some of the others.

Things that you will require:

·      Baking soda
·      Old, clean toothbrush
·      Old dish soap
·      Laundry detergent

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Firstly, place the clothes on a hard surface. Take some baking soda in hand, and sprinkle a layer over the stain only.

2.   If required, work the baking soda in the stain with your fingers. Let it remain in place for a few hours, or overnight if the stain it stubborn or has been left in place for a long time.

3.   The next day, simply brush it off with an old, clean toothbrush.

4.   Now, apply a bit of old dish soap on to the stain.

5.   Work it in with your fingers or the old toothbrush. Do not spread the stain.

6.   Leave the dish soap in place for a few minutes.

7.   Wash as normal. When the clothes have air dried, check if the stain has been completely removed. If it has not been, repeat the above steps.
