How to remove Grease Stains from leather

Leather gives a very sleek look when used in furniture and it is very professional looking when carried around as a purse or worn as shoes. But it is very important to take care of your leather items because once you get a stain on it; it will be very prominent, killing the look of the item. This is why leather must be handled with care. Even the oil from hands can leave marks on it, and if you get grease stains on leather, removing it a whole other story.

It doesn’t matter if you are quick to rescue your leather item once grease has found its way to it or not, the stain will take some time and effort to get removed. Here are some methods that will ensure that your leather item is grease stain free in no time.

Method 1 (Corn Starch Method)

This method is very effective when used on suede leather. If your purse is made of suede leather and greasy stains have appeared on it, this method will ensure a hundred percent stain removal. The items required are easy to find and corn suede is very cheap so don’t be afraid of using a lot of it.

Things that you will require:

·      Corn starch
·      Suede brush

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Pour a large amount of corn starch onto the grease stains on your leather purse. Make sure that the corn starch covers the stains completely and you haven’t missed a spot. Leave it on the purse for about twenty four hours.

2.   Use the suede brush to scrub off the powder.

3.   In case you feel there is a slight hint of the grease stains and that the stain removal wasn’t successful, pour corn starch onto the stains again and rub the stains with your finger. This will loosen the grease, removing the stains.

Method 2 (Kerosene Method)

This method should be followed with care because it involves kerosene which is highly flammable. Make sure you don’t inhale the fumes as well. This method is very successful when it comes to removing stains that are extremely stubborn. Also it must be noted that suede leather isn’t treated with this method.

Things that you will require:

·      Kerosene
·      Liquid dishwashing soap
·      Warm water
·      Empty bowl
·      Cleaning towels
·      Sun flower oil

Steps that you will need to take:

1.   Take a cleaning towel and dip it in kerosene. Make sure it isn’t too much, just enough to cover the stained leather sofa. Apply the kerosene to the grease stains. Leave it on for 4 to 5 minutes.

2.   Take an empty bowl and mix warm water with liquid dishwashing soap. Dip the clean side of the cleaning towel in it and apply to the stained area in order to remove kerosene. This will also remove the grease stains.

3.   At this point all of the grease stains will be removed, but if they aren’t, repeat steps 2 and 3. After the process is complete, dip the cleaning towel in sun flower oil and apply to the area that was stained.
